The Silver Line - telephone advice and befriending

The Silver Line is the confidential, free, telephone helpline for older people across the UK open every day and night of the year. Their specially trained helpline team:

  • Offer information, friendship and advice
  • Link callers to local groups and services
  • Offer regular friendship calls
  • Protect and support older people who care suffering abuse and neglect

The Silver Line Helpline provides three functions to support older people:

  • sign-posting service to link clients into the many, varied services that exist around the country
  • befriending service to combat loneliness
  • empowering those who may be suffering abuse and neglect, if appropriate to transfer them to specialist services to protect them from harm

There are no strict age limits but most people who contact the helpline are over 65.
